Saranda is the one of main tourist destination of all Albania. The inside of the town is a combination of top new buildings, old taverns, cafeterias and cozy houses.

Located on the shores of Ionian sea, in front of the Greek island of Corfu, Saranda is characterized by a Mediterranean climate and warm sea waters. Due to its location and warm weather Saranda is one of the most attractive tourist town in Albanian Riviera, where honeymooners traditionally spend their holidays. Several daily ferryboat link Saranda with the nearby Greek island of Corfu.

The climate of Saranda is mild Mediterranean and sunny most of the year, averaging 290 sunny days a year. In the summer temperatures rarely exceed 30 degrees during the day, while the sea breeze at night is quite refreshing. With its mild climate and incredible view of the Ionian Sea, Saranda is maybe Albania's only tourist town. When Conde Nast Traveller once wrote that Albania was "the next place", they probably had this city in mind.

The economy of Saranda town is based mainly on its agricultural products but recently it’s economy in tourism has grown. The road Tepelenë – Gjirokastër is still going on and it will The construction of another port for the yacht is a priority and the Airport case is in discussion with the government, and the day when Saranda will have a million tourists visiting during the summer season isn’t far. It is an old town, first settled by the Illyrian tribe of Chaonians who named it Onchesmus. Cicero mentions it as convenient harbour with favourable winds. It is the bay on which is build that gives Saranda its charming look, that can be better appreciated if approached from the sea. The many mosaics found in the town confirm that the town must have seen some above average development around 2nd and 3rd centuries A.D

Near Saranda are the ruins of the ancient city of Butrint a World
Heritage Site and one of the most important archeological finds in Albania, and the “Blue Eye” natural spring. Close to Saranda is also the ancient city of Finiq that according to Edwin Jacques, it is found to have had one of the biggest acropolis in the ancient world, roughly 7 times bigger than that of Athens.
